Stringy live rock

My live rock is in great shape, but often grows long stringy hairs off of it. They are always the color of the coralline that's grown on the rock. They look awful and I end up blowing them off once they get to be 4 or 5 inches long. Is this something that happens to everyone else too?

You could have some vermetid snails.. They will blow out some long stringy looking stuff, like cob webs in order to catch food....

It's definitely growth coming from my live rock though. I've never bought those kind of snails either, so I don't know.....
