Strongest florescent light out there?

I have two 48" strip lights with 40w actinic bulbs at the moment. What is the highest wattage I can get with this kind of fixture and where can I buy it at. My LFS only has bulbs that go up to 40w. Is that the highest you can buy for florescent lighting?

With your current fixture the highest wattage you are going to get is 40 watts. To get higher, you will need a new ballast, end caps and bulbs. The highest wattage available in a 4 foot bulb that I know of is 110 watts per bulb. These are VHO (very high output) bulbs. They are available at most LFS and online at several different places.
