I got stung by some Fire coral one time in Cozumel and it hurt like -#$#--# But never by my anenomie. I really try to avoid it. The book says it may not even hurt or it could kill you if your allergic to it.. Take a chance!!! You only live once

Just kiddin there!! Todd

i was stung by a ritteri anemone, not once, but twice. my forearm was in contact with the tentacles for maybe one second at the most but my forearm started to itch immediately. when i took my arm out of the water red spots were visible and spreading. it wasn't a feeling of pain but it was itching to the point that you wanted to tear your own skin off.

I had a ritteri for a while and was never stung. I didn't intentionally make attempts to get stung, but my arm made contact with it any time I was reaching into the tank. I think it all depends on a person's allergic reaction (or in my case lack there of).

I feed my RBTA by hand all the time and barely feel a prickle from it's tenticles. Maybe I'm just dumb! :hilarious

Pretty much anything in the Ocean Bites or Stings, some of us are affected more than others by the stings. But i think the bites are all about the same!
But ive handled my flower pot numerouse times and never had a problem but im always careful and handle it from the bottom. Not sure if thats right or not, but ive never been stung. Goodluck

While adding a hammer coral I got stung. Gave me a nice red welt on my thumb that felt kind of like a mild burn.

Anemones and corals and some relatives, have what are called "nematocysts" These are very handy weapons (both for defense and for catching food) that under magnification effectively look like tiny microscopic harpoons. This is why they feel "sticky". They have harpooned you, along with any toxin they might release. Often, you may react on your inner arm and not on your hands, which have thicker skin.

Just like Blemmy Guy, I too got stung by fire coral while diving in St. Marten. My whole arm, from hand to elbow, was burning and swolen. The pain was severe and intense. Lesson learned...stay away from fire coral!!

I have been stung more times by more than I'd like to admit. The strongest anemone sting I have experienced came from a carpet anemone.Red welts, swelling and pain. The worst sting I have felt hands down was from fire coral...between the knuckles on my right hand.It took two months for the pain to fully go away..and the first week it was excruciating.
