I just went to lfs and got what I thought and they told me was a FLAme HAWKFIsh and was reef safe sept for really small shrimp. I got home and found out it was a ARC eye hawkfish. Anyway I see that a certain other website run by vets say it will eat small fish and crabs and anenomes. Well needles to say i did not want an ARC EYE so I called them back same day today and this ignorant lady said They never told me it was a flame, and they would not take it back. So now i have a fish that is prolly gonna kill my stuff. If anybody has one please let me know anything about them. I think i might put him up for sale on the class. I paid 20.00 for him.
ANy info would be appreciated greatly

There's a noticable difference between a flame, and an arc eye. Neither one is really good for a reef tank though. I've seen flames eat shrimp larger than themselves. Actually looks pretty funny as they perch themselves on a peice of LR with the shrimp antenna's sticking out of there mouth. Either way if you have any inerts in your reef neither would be a good choice.

maybe I have a rare situatioin but I have a flame and he doesnt bother my peperment or my cleaner shrimp, he was a good addition to my reef imo. and still remains a good citizen this site states they may eat small shrimp,
"The Flame Hawkfish, a.k.a. Scarlet Hawkfish, is one of the coolest fish among all fish kept in aquariums. They have a beautiful red body with a dark band along their dorsal line and dark markings around their large eyes. The Flame Hawk has a tremendous amount of personality. Its large eyes love to watch everything that goes on both inside and outside the aquarium. These fish have large pectoral fins which they use to perch on rockwork and substrate. They will hop from spot to spot in full view waiting to be fed. They make excellent additions to any tank, but may eat small shrimp."

Find a new LFS for beginners...
Learn from your error...always research you fish prior to going and looking...get yourself a good fish ID book and take it with you during your (we all do this I think) impulsive fish buying outtings...

Flamaes that do not eat shrimp are an exception. Almost all flames that I've seen would quickly devoire a shrimp given the oppurtunity. I don't know how many times I've seen a new peron at the LFS put a flame in with shrimp. Usually within a couple of hrs. most of the shrimp are gone.

How could someone screw up so bad? Those hawks look nothing alike, if i saw that i would have chewed them out. Anyways, like said the hawks will bother shrimp so if you have or intend to keep shrimp then ditch the hawk. They are more likely to attack shrimp then crabs though.
