I just set up a cpr refugium. I need a light to grow macro algae. Would a clip on incandescent bulb work. I know the spectrum is wrong for a tank, but since I am only growing algae would that work. I hate to go out a spend 30 bucks just for light. It needs to look descent since my tank is in the family room. Any suggestions appreciated

do you even know anything on the subject, invader?
you should really stop giving information that you don't have any clue about! i think that might be why you were taken off the board in the first place.

are you talking about the intank or the hang on cpr? if its the intank you can use the light your using now, my friend is using 35watts and his macro is actually growing, if its the hang on, people use those lights from home depot... ask someone about that

I am talking about the hang on the back of the tank cpr. The HD LOA fixtures wouldnt work in my family room. They would only work if I had the refugium in my cabinet. The LOA are outdoor security lights. So can I use the lamp I am using or do I need to purchase a hood?

i have 2 clip on incandences they are 65 watt each, and are the FLOOD type bulbs not SPOT type bulbs. it seems to work great for me so far only had it running a week, but the glass is already covered in algea so im guessing the lights are really helping, the calurpa looks like its grown a little

i am really tired of seeing posts with these kids responding with BS. isnt there anything that can be done sammy?
on my fuge, im using a 55watt PC 50/50 (18gal tall) and the algae is growing great. But if you dont want to spend the money, give your idea a try. If it works, COOL!

On my ecosystem filters, the refugium sections have small Jali PC lights, with regular white bulbs. I've never studied the spectrum analysis of these, I just figured they knew thats what I wanted in there -- so I'd go with one of the cheap Jali 13 or 18" pcs with a plain white bulb, about 15-20 bucks online.
