Are you ready for it?
I hope I'm not the only one...
Ok, here goes...
I don't know what a "sump/fuge" is...
Do I need one?
Laugh if you must, I can't hear you anyway :)

It's one tank (or container) used as a sump AND a re"fug"ium. It is divided into compartments by baffles. Mine skimps on the fuge part because there is not much room in there. I only use the fuge part for chaeto algae; no rubble for pods.

well if you had a 5 gal nano, you wouldent use a 55gal refuge/sump...
but generally it will help reguardless of the tank size...many people run VERy sucessfull tanks without a fuge/sump...others dont.

I dont have a sump or fuge on my tank. I am trying to get a 90 gallon set up and will be running a sump, but the biggest reason i will be running one is to hide a lot of my equipment under the tank.

Some aqauriums come "drilled" and are known as "reef" ready. Those require a sump as they have built in overflows that drain the water out of the aquarium.
A sump is an extra tank, usually kept underneath the display aquarium that houses your heater, skimmers, probes, etc. water flows by an overflow box into it, and then is pumped back.
Some folks also incorporate a "refugium" into it for extra filtration, pod growth ect.

Chaeto is a macro algae and pods are the small bugs that procreate in salt water.
