As long as the metal clamp is not in contact with the tank water it should be fine. I think, based on the information provided, you have the wrong size tubing required for the hose barb or the "nozzle". The tubing should be a tight fit over this nozzle. HTH

What about plastic cable ties? I wouldn't feel comfortable putting any kind of metal into my tank...don't know 'bout you.

Some plastic cable ties use a small metal clip or the stop if you want to call it inside the cavity where you slide the other end into, so take a close look inside the cavity first and make sure it is plastic too.
