Substarte Confusion...help!

Hello, I am in somewhat of a quandry as to what sort of substrate I should be using. I currently have crushed coral on a ugf system for my 135g FO set-up with some live rock & inverts. I will be dimantling the tank in a few weeks to get rid of the ugf & cc, as I have come to learn that cc is nothing but a "nitrate factory".
I was in the process of planning for a dsb conversion; however, I have larger burrowing fish such as wrasses. I have learnt that burrowing fish might destroy the mechanics of a dsb. What are my options? I understand that a Plenum is one. Are there others? I would like to know what others out there with larger fish are using as substrate.
Dismantling my tank will be quite a job & I want to set it up properly this time round. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance TT.

It is very rare of a dsb in a home aquarium having problems with digging fish. You will not have any problems.A plenum is alot of work, with very little advantages over a DSB. I would just go with the sand.(I DID)

I second the DSB. What wrasses do you have. Most would not disturb the bed that badly.

I have a Yellow Coris Wrasse, Coral Hog & Cuban Hog. If you think a dsb would be fine with these guys, I will then go that route (I would much prefer that anyways).

I would use a dsb but you may want to make it a little deeper to make sure only the top layer is being disturbed.
