substrate for trigger

Can you use the CaribSea Aruba Puka shell substrate with a trigger? I know they like to excavate a lot and was concerned the large jagged pieces may hurt his mouth or something…just asking because I have some extra. I don’t mind buying smaller CC if that’s better, I’d love use sand but he’s a messy eater and I’m afraid I’ll have problems if I don’t have a bottom feeder to eat the leftovers.

I would go CC myself. I have tried Puka shells before but found them hard to siphion. Triggers like to move things around anyway so CC is easier for them to get in mouth as smaller fish.

Yeah, crushed coral is the best way to go. That other stuff that they make with crushed shells can be a hazard to fish who like to go through the sand. Trigger frequently like to search the snad for anything that can be eaten and in the process they can get some of the substrate caught in their gills. CC is a fine grade sand which I use in my aggressive tanks just to be on the safe side. I dont want my Picasso Trigger dieing from substrate caught in the gills.
