substrate in a shark tank

I already know that a DSB is a necessity for keeping sharks (so as to not irritate their bellies). Right now I've got a banded cat shark egg in my tank with about 2-3 inches of finely CC. What I'd like to do is layer play sand from Home Depot over the top to create a softer surface for him to lay on. Will piling on about an inch of sand do anything to what I've already got going on in there (meaning kill off any of the critters in the CC bed?). It's way too much of a project to remove the CC, so I'd like to just work around it if possible. Any ideas on this?

I sure hope you don't have that shark in a 75 cause if you do, don't even worry about the substrate.

Eventually the crushed coral will make its way to the top of your sand bed. When I do a crushed coral and sand mix I use about one pound of coral per 50 gallons which is ok for sharks. Best option for you to do is start digging the coral out of your tank.
