substrate - live sand vs CC

From what a gather, a LSB is a better substrate than CC. Also, the LSB should be 3 - 4 inches thick.
I currently have a CC substrate on an established tank (3.5 y/o). Would there be any benefit to adding live sand to this without removing the CC? Or should you remove "sections" of CC and replace with live sand over a period of a few months???
I'm just curious which would be less disruptive to the inhabitants of my tank.
Or should I just wait til I set up my dream 150 gal in about 2 or 3 years??????
Thanks!!!

It seems that live sand vs cc is one of the most talked about topics. Seems like someone should compile a good post to stay locked at the top of this forum. I would put something together but 1) I am not experienced enough to cover the topic in enough detail and 2) I suck at putting together posts like that
