hello, its been awhile and i am getting back into the hobby my question is can i use crushed oyster shell as a substrate? i found it in a sugar size and a small grain size, or what do you recommend? i have a 150gal that im starting up!

There are a few setups that can thrive with sugar sized crushed substrate. What are you long term goals for the tank?

I think 1/4" - 1/2" would work just fine for that, depending on which fish of course, as long as you have plenty of waterflow.
I would suggest that you soak the crushed shells in RO/DI water for a week or so before using it. That tends to dissolve most of the sharp edges as well as remove any incorporated organic material.
