Success with feeding non-pods to scooter blenny!

Hi everyone,
I know some of you have already reported similar limited success with brine shrimp, but I am so excited about this, I just have to post it. I was able to feed one of my two scooter blennies (dragonets) live tubiflex worms for two straight feedings in a row. I can only seem to get one interested in them though, but this one is the most aggressive one of the two I have, so the other doesn't really get the chance to decide if he likes it. Incidently, I think the aggressive who is eating them is a female and the other a male.

Yea, I've had problems in the past getting my scooter blennies to eat anything other than copepods. I know others have had problems as well. Some people have had success though feeding live brine shrimp to them. I am really impressed that you have your's eating so many different things.

Cool. My red scooter loves live brine and rarely will take frozen squid.
FYI the male scooters will have a larger first dorsal fin.

Why do you say Scooters are hard to feed? Mine ate frozen brine, lettuce (yep), bristleworms, and... er... Cleaner shrimp too...

Well, I had been feeding my Regal Tang supplementary lettuce in his diet, and he would rip pieces off, and they would float down to the bottom where the scooter blenny was waiting. He ate it a lot. I finally pinned some down on the bottom with a rock and saw him ripping off chunks to eat...

Ive never had luck with these guys. Id really like to see someone find an effective way to feed these guys. Also, will they eat flatworms? I have heard this and was kinda wondering.

BHAV_88 - I am amazed. I would have never expected a scooter to eat lettuce or bristle worms. Mine never seem to even touch algae. Have all the scooters you ever had had the same diet? Or in your experience, is each scooter different?
I will try the lettuce suggestion also. Are you using romaine, iceberg, or redleaf lettuce? Yes, I can't believe I know that many different lettuce types. :)
thanks,
sam

Well, I had three in my life. Each one suffered a different fate... BUT NOT ONE OF THEM STARVED. I use Romaine Lettuce when feeding my tang. Bristleworms were my scooter's favorite food, though. I could NEVER see any worms, because the moment one would surface, he would be eaten by the scooter.
(In case you wondered, the first scooter died of parasites, the second one was killed by the third, and the third got into a fight with a sally lightfoot crab)

lettuce has no nutrition value to the fish. it would be like living on popcorn. PPL have done this in the past so its well known ,tangs use to suffer from hlle ect from poor diets from only lettuce. I would feed spinurila/ marine alga better for them and has alot of vitimans. The fish may do well of lettuce but it's probally getting other foods.

It may be like living on popcorn if you eat just lettuce, but would you want to live without popcorn? Just use it as a complement to the diet. (Actually, it has some nutrition, like fiber and such, just not much...)
