Such a thing as too much flow?

I had a problem about two weeks ago with nitrates not going down. I noticed my mushrooms were reaching for light and turning into cups. I checked my levels and all was fine but the nitrates would not go below 20ppm even after water changes. I was reading about my tank, 12gal jbj, and how to change out the DYI light kits when I realized that my pump had not been removed and cleaned since I set up the tank a year ago. I never got directions with it. I removed the pump, took it apart, cleaned the wheel and other stuff that was covered in kunk and put it back. WOW the water is flowing so much that my bubble barely opens, my maroon clown hides from the flow in the corner and although the mushrooms have stopped turning into cups they still struggle to stay flat. Anyone have a problem with too much flow? I guess I will need to add another piece of rock for my bubble to bock some of the flow so it will puff up. Any ideas? Oh the guy at mylfs says the mushrooms were trying to get light apparently the low flow let the protien build up on the syrface causing the nitrates and some light blockage. True? But sounds good and makes sense.

Mushrooms do not shrink or cup up when they want light; they expand and open up to increase their surface area for absorption. As far as too much flow, you should be fine if you are using the stock pump that came with the nano cube. You should consider doing the surface skimmer modification for your tank. It helps in so many ways. Run a search on this forum for "surface skimmer" or something like that and see if it comes up with anything for nano cubes. Have fun!
:joy:
P.S. – If it has been a year and you have not replaced the PC lights it is definitely time to do so. Try to find a place online that sells them (flea bay).
