Sucking down the calcium

I just got a bunch of frags this past weekend so their my first corals. My calcium went from 450ppm to 390 in two days, is this a normal rate of consumption for 23 tiny frags, mostly zoos and softies?

I believe his tank is a 75g.
That seems like a really high consumption rate to me. is your alk in line? maybe your precipitating calcium?

Yeah, it's a 75. My alk is a bit high right now, it was 13dKH last night when i checked it.

hmm... since i snagged my frags last weekend the plating monti has probably added between a 1/16 and an 1/8 inch all around, there used to be plug visible around the entire piece, it's pretty much all covered. and the birds next has sprouted three new branches. One xenia has just about finished dividing and the GSP is starting to grow down onto the rock i set it on. sweeeeet. now if my armor of gods would start multiplying I'd be a happy man.
Tomorrow is water change day so I'll do that and test again on Sunday to see where calcium and Alk are at.

Softies and LPS dont use calcium like the SPS do.
But if you arent dosing a 2-part or have a calcium reactor, you may start to need one or the other.
Now my 65g is starting to be sps dominated, so I can barely miss a day where I dont dose my 2-part calc and alk. Montis especially seem to be calc junkies because they grow so fast.

yeah, i dose when i need to, just calcium for now until my alk gets into line then I'd be doing both and eventually a kalk drip once the demand is there, probably won't be too long once i get a clam in there.
