suds in my wet/dry

I noticed today that my wet/dry had suds in the top tray on the filter pad and a little in the bio balls. What's going on? I'm going to change the pad tomorrow since it's 2 A.M right now. Just want to hear some suggestions.

Do you have a skimmer running on this setup?? If so,is it working properly?? I'm just thinking this foam may be excess waste,and disalved protiens that normally would be pulled out by a good skimmer.

I don't have a skimmer just yet. Could this happen without the skimmer?

This is probably what this foam is then...YOU NEED A SKIMMER!!!!!!!
