Suicidal fish

I found one of my chromis and my tank-raised clown on my floor last night. they were dried up and had faceless expressions on their tiny little heads. I'd like to think it was murder since they did have a scuffle with another fish in the tank, but something tells me the other guy wouldn't go that far. That only leads me to the conclude they committed hari-hari. I can't imagine why.. well I have been somewhat of a neglecting father. Anyway, the point is.. I want to get more fish, but..
HOW DO I STOP THEM FROM JUMPING OUT OF MY TANK????
any advice would be deeply appreciated (=

eggcrate works well... Local home depot etc. It is usually found in the lighting department, used to cover ceiling fixtures. I believe it is called a diffuser..

My concern with that was that the tank won't get much air circulation and may heat up. Will that be a problem?

Most people have some sort of covering on their tank. Eggcrate is a very popular way to get gas exchange but yet still cover the tank.
You may need to add fans, but there is virtually no difference, IMO, between an open top and with eggcrate.

egg crates are like a plastic mesh-fensing almost. It it jsut little squares. Im going to get some this weekend because it would be better for gas exchange and a heck of a lot less expensive than a 50$ glass top from my LFS.

Did any other than me laugh when readin this? Just imagining a fish saying to itself "man i just can't take this sh*t no mo!" and leaping...then diving onto the floor with a splat!
maybe it's just me...
