Well i have either a 220 gal or 240 gal (not really sure) oceanic tank i am working on getting started right now. I have a 125 gallon fowlr now that has been up and running for about a year and half with no problems but this will be my first tank with a sump. I am planning on running 2 closed loop for water circulation and i have a old 55 gallon tank i am planning on making into a sump. I have been reading a good many post and have found a couple of good diagrams and photos for making my sump. Now i was wondering if this size tank is ok to use as my sump for this size tank. Any other tips or suggestions would be great.

LxWxH divided by 231 will give you you exact tank size... As far as the sump goes...the bigger the better. If you can fit a larger one in,then I would go with the larger one. Just because you have a 55 to use...doesnt mean you should ( just to save money) Go big the first time and you wont be sorry in the longrun.

I have a 40 breeder on my 180 and it works just fine. So IMO a 55 would work. But if you can fit something bigger then thats better but its not needed.

bigger is better but you can get away with smaller because i have a smaller one and it works well for me.
