Sump cleaning?

Are you supposed to clean out your sump? I know that you have to rinse the sock on the intake and the skimmer, but on the floor of the sump I have a little bit of junk. I am not real concerned about it but I guess I wasn't sure if you were supposed to do any additional cleaning in there? Thanks in advance.

I usually fill my tank by way of the sump and try and hose off the bottom so the yuck becomes suspended in the water again for my skimmer to get. Or I guess you could suck it outta there when doing a WC.
