sump/fuge or other system? Which is better

I wanted to know if any body knows if a sump/fuge is better than the following
FLUVAL FX5 FILTER (filters 1100 gallons per hour)
RENA FILSTAR XP3

What does "Better" mean to you...?
What are the qualifications we are judging them by..??
Cost, ease of use, setup, maintenance, availabilty, functionality, overall benefit to tank, supplemental side benefits..?
