I’m new to the hobby. I bought a 10G sump/refug for my 30G DT a while back. I like it but want to change some things, so I’m going to build my own out of a 20G. I think with 3 sections using ballasts.
I have a couple of questions on placement of equipment:
1. Where should I put the heater, in the refugium? (This is a backup heater as my other is behind LR that I don’t want to move.)
2. Where should I put the intake pump and output hose for the chiller?
I also have a couple of questions about the plumbing:
1. Do most people use a “tee” in the return plumbing with an elbow and ball valve to return excess water straight back into the sump? When I plumbed my return line, I used the ball valve in that line to control the flow in the return. I don’t know if this could harm or shorten the lifespan of my pump. In a small setup like mine, is it really a big worry?
I appreciate all the help!
