Sump/fuge w/ Canister filter?

Would using the canister filter (which I allready have) in conjunction with a sump and fuge be a good idea? If so, where would I place it? Or would I just leave it in the main tank where it is now? Thanks for the help.

It can be done, I have my setup that way. But the hard part is, the pump in the canister to pull in the watter. For now till I figure out a better way to do it I have the intake in the tank. I had it in my sump, but I could never get it to prime.

I would like to put my canister filter in my sump. But I could see how it could lose prime b/c it would probably suck up the water too quickly and drain the sump and lose prime. Thanks for the reply. Let me know if you figure out a solution.

I did this with my 125 a few years ago and it worked great.
I left the intake where it would normally go and then placed the outlet in the sump via a spray bar. The only thing bad about it was that it was a little noisy, but with a house full of kids and a "yapin" wife :scared: , I didn't even notice it.

I have been thinking about putting some one way valves to help control the loss of prime. I need to make/find some that will work. If I do, I will post it here!

Thanks for the info. I would think you could put the spray bar underneath the H2O enough that it would not make as much noise. I was thinking of putting the intake and the outlet in the sump so I wouldn't see anything in my tank. I don't know yet.

I have a fluval 404 and I"ve thought about doing this, too. I'll probably load it w/ active carbon and have it take the water from the sump where the overflows are draining and then dump it either in the fuge or return pump chamber.
