I am going to be using a sump/fuge that is a converted 55 gallon tank. My question is what is best to use in the fuge, and should I break up some live rock to use where I would normaly put bioballs in the sump, and if so it would need to be lighted correct? should I put a whole live rock in the fuge or is that overkill when I have almost 200 lbs in the DT? Should I put a deep sand bed in the fuge with some chaeto because I will not put one in my DT it will be shallow? If I do put one in the fuge do I need to add sifters? Is it O.K. to just put chaeto by itself in there without sand? would like some suggestions on a good fuge set up, I also need to know what I would need for lighting.

You don't really need lighting with just LR or LS, and yes you could do a DSB in the fuge.... I wouldn't use bio-balls. If you do add chaeto, it doesn't matter what else is in there but you will need light at that point. I have just a cheap $5 clip-on light from home depot and one of those swirly energy saver bulbs. You could do any combination of items in the fuge, or even all. A DSB in a fuge shouldn't have any sand sifters, and you could put live rock and chaeto right on top, or just use live rock and chaeto, or just any one of the items. I don't have sand in my fuge, but my DT has a DSB. Mine only has LR and chaeto. Hope that helps.

I just realized i wrote sand sifters, and not shifters, so do I need those in a fuge with a DSB?
