i was recently asking questions about a HOB protein skimmer for my 90gal tank when the point was brought about changing to a sump and overflow setup. i was wondering if anyone could help me withe the size of sump, type of overflow, what to put in the sump etc. Before i order a skimmer.

well dude, it really depends on how much bacon and time you're willing to put into this... if i were you i would:
drill the tank (check out glass-holes dot com for drill bits and overflow packages)
make your own sump out of a tank (the biggest that will fit under your cabinet and still leave room to work)
i dig the asm skimmers, and i've heard nothing but good about octo's
incorporate a fuge in the sump

I wouldn't necessarily say that you should drill your tank. There are several types of external overflows that work really well. Since you have a 90g aquarium, a nice CPR would work pretty well. On the external overflow box, it will tell you what your minimum gph should be. Here's a link to a recent discussion over pump sizes, head loss and such for an external overflow:

Try to read the whole thread, and if you have any questions, PM me, I'll be glad to help.
