Sump pump suddenly working in overdrive??

My sump pump is pumping water faster than the tube going from the tank to the sump... Why could this be? The tank to sump tube is not blocked (its clear & there is no obstructions)
I added water to the tank & within 30 minutes, the water level is low in the sump again & the water in the tank is higher. I keep the water in the sump about 4" above the top of the pump, is it just because I dont have enough water in the sump?

What style /type overflow are you using. Are you using a U tube style overflow box? Have you made absolutely sure the drain bulkhead is clear?

I dont use an overflow box, my pump brand is rio though. I checked it this morning & it seems to have stopped freaking out, im guessing it was just really low on water, keep in mind im still a noob lol. If the problem persists, I will update. Thank you!

It's possible the pump could be acting up...Speeding up and slowing down from time to time. I'd watch it, but I'd be weary of adding more water if you already have your water level set in the sump.
