I believe they are extrernal pumps. The sequence sound like nice pumps but designed for high flow applications. If your putting this on a 90 gal its gonna be a lot of flow, since - 4 foot head the smallest sequence does 2800 gph. So you will have to constrict it down to a usable level which then just wastes electricity -160watts consumption when a smaller pump will do the amount of flow you might require for as little as 40watts.
Like acrlyic stated, it really depends on what your goals/needs are with this pump.
