It has to be a good 10 to 15 years old. I am not sure. I am not sure about anything on this tank. I bought the tank already est. I going to try to adjust it tonite, see if that will help

That is old! I'd go ahead and switch the pump no matter what.

If you are worried about heat issues, I'd stay away from Mag drives and go with something beefier like Eheim.
