Sump Pump

I am setting up a 55gal with a 10gal sump... What type of pump should I use for the return? If it is too strong will it not drain the sump, cuz it cant fill up fast enough? Wouldn't it be like that for any pump? Unless it was getting the exact same amount of water as it was putting back? I need some help here I think!

Should I keep the skimmer, it is a hang on, unless anyone knows one that is better for a 55gal for around 80, can I keep it in the sump? Where I don't have anything hanging off of the back?

If you Tee the return (back into the sump) and add a valve, you can adjust the flow back into your tank.
hope this helps...

Hi Josh, First off if your using a overflow hopefully you got one that is rated atleast 600gph or close to that, also you want your pump 100gph under your rated over flow this will keep your pump from going dry, the water from the overflow balances out with your pump so not to worrie about that. goodluck. Josh,
I have a similar set-up.
55 gallon with 10 gallon sump.
I orginally had the CPR Bak-Pak hanging on back of tank, but was able to hang it on the sump, and just extend the skimmers inlet tubing a few inches to allow me to locate the skimmer pump low enough in the sump.
Check my profile and website for pics.
