I have a 75 gal tank and currently do not have a sump system. I'd like to add one but am so clueless on who to do this. Please keep in mind I'm a 29 year old female - who isn't completly mechanical! I found this one online Marineland Tidepool 2 Sump Filter and the SOS Prefilter. I was wondering if it was any good and what else is inloved in setting it up for my tank? It says it needs a pump? What sort of pump? HELP HELP!

the pump you need will depend on the flow rate to the sump and the height you will have to push the water up to to get back in the tank. I don't know anything about this sump filter. But you will need an overflow box and pipe or hose going to the sump, I assume you want a sump/fuge/skimmer set-up, if so you would tee-off with part of the flow to the fuge and part to the skimmer, then your return pump back to the tank. I built one for my 80 gal. that was pretty simple, just pick up a 29 gal. tank, have some glass pieces cut to fit in the tank and silicone them in place, there's some good threads on hear on how to build one.

I'm in SW Michigan! Too bad! The system I found online seems like it would be easy to put together, I would have to buy the overflow box for the outside of the tank and then the actual sump unit. The pump still confusing me! Do you think a sump is worth it? Will it help with the overall water performance? Thanks

a sump with a fuge is the way to go, I have about a 4" sand bed it the fuge and some cheato, makes a big difference in the water quality, the cheato absorbes nitrate and the sand bed helps the filtering system, I set one up for a friend about a year ago because he never could keep corals in his tank and since then his tank has done great. I would not have a system without it. For your pump lets say you are flowing in 600 GPH and your return for the pump is going up 4 ft. you would just need to find a pump that will pump 600 gph back up to the display tank with four feet on head, when looking at a pump it will give you the gph and head loss to help figure out what you need, another advantage to the sump is that is were your water evaporation showns so you can top-off at your sump and keep the DT at the same water level, the sump helps keep your water level consistant thus your SG is more stable. Hope this helps
