sump question

I have not been able to find the info and perhaps it does not matter, but is there a proper way to drain your DT into your sump? What I am asking is I have a rr tank and drain the DT into the sump using PVC. Do I need to disperse the water somehow when it gets into my sump? Do I have the drain pipe end above the water, in the water? Is there a way to minimize sound?
I have three compartments in my sump. The middle will have my cheto. Do I put live rock/rubble in the first and third compartments? (I also have a protein skimmer in the first compartment (can move).
Sorry, I know this info is out there, but I see lots of diagrams, but no discussion on this. Thanks to all who answer.
P.S. I have a new 90 gal rr that I am just about ready to fill with water sand and rock (once I get this last bit of plumbing down)

no straight in is fine, keep the drains just below the surface to help with splashing ,for the sound you will have some no matter what but you can help it by keeping the drains to the sump under water, live rock in same chamber as your cheato, keep the other for chemical filtration (carbon, and such) skimmer in the first where your drains come in from the DT is fine. so
drains and skimmer in the first, cheato, rubble rock in the second, third will have your return pump and carbon if you decide to run any at some point.
hope this helps. are you planning on utilizing a filter sock on the incoming drains ?

I was not, but do you suggest? Is it mostly to filter out large particles or do you fill it with carbon? Or both.. Also you mentioned carbon in third portion and in first. I assume one or the other? Did you mean carbon?

you can get different micron bags, I use mine to filter the water from the DT to the sump, you wouldn't believe the waste it takes out, large and small it really helps to polish the water.you can put carbon in it also but it's easier to just toss the carbon into a mesh bag and plop it next to your return pump, and yes you can put the carbon into either chamber 1st or 3rd just don't put in into the one with your cheato and rock.
