Sump/Refugium Question

I plan on having a 55 gallon tank as my sump/refugium for my 90 gallon FOWLR tank. Should ALL of the tank water flow through the refugium (after going through the skimmer), or should I put a ball valve on the drain line and only have part of the water flow through the refugium and back to the tank (skipping the skimmer)? Or should all water flow through refugium and THEN skimmer and then return?

personally, i like it to enter into the skimmer chamber, then go into the refugium and then into the return chamber, there are alot of different ways to do this but go to http://www.melevsreef.com/acrylics/s...p_model_l.html
