Ive never really known, and Ive been looking into getting one, but what are the true benefits of having a sump or refugium vs. not having one at all? What does it do for your tank? Thanks

A sump is basically a smaller tank under or around ur main tank giving you more room to put your equipment rather than placing it all on the back of the tank or in it. A Refugium is a refuge for inverts and pods to breed as well as types of Macro Algaes to grow and reduce nitrate levels in your tank. I Hope that helps.

Why would you want to add volume that you can't see? Isn't that like haveing a really hot girlfriend that you can't sleep with? You get bragging rights, but so what.

The argument is flawed. A Bigger water volume makes for a healthier tank. It looks better because you can keep some ugly stuff(heater...) hidden.
Besides your hot girlfriend keeps certain parts hidden. Some even say that those are the most important parts.
Hey, sorry it took so long to get back to you, I was in NY. Please email me, and I will send the pictures, they are too big for on here. It would be more then enough for your 90 gallon. BellaNavis@Aol.Com
Nope, sorry, I had it custom made for over $175.00 I will do $130 shipped, its heavy. $100 if you can pick up, or meet me somewhere. Never used, filled up tank and sump with freshwater, and the tank cracked.
