Sump/Skimmer Setup Help

Ok, I have a overflow box going to sump.. Now how do I hookup my skimmer.. And get water back to my main tank.. Im confused :help:

You put your main pump in the sump and it pumps the water back to the main tank thru a hose. As the pump pumps the water into the main tank, it over flows back to the sump. You put the skimmer pump in the sump too and it draims back in to the sump. Make sure the water level in the sump is over the pumps but low enough for the tank to drain to the bottom of overflow if the main pump stops.

I have a question also since I am trying to put together a sump. A sump could be a small tank, right :confused: or is it one of those boxes with the bioballs in them. I have purchased a CPR SR2 IN-SUMP PROTEIN SKIMMER, I have a pump and a Fluval 404. How can I make all this work? I do not have an overflow, I know I will need one.
My question is I put the overflow to feed the tank(sump), then what have the skimmer do its job? can I use my Fluval to fliter and send the water to the tank?
I am so lost on this and there is no clear way or picture I have been able to find.
