Sump Tank Style Tank

Hi Everyone,
I am looking to begin a 90 gallon saltwater tank and have a question about a sump tank. Last night I stopped by ***** for their $1 per gallon sale and they had two 20 gallon tanks. They had one tall and one long 20 gallon. This is my first time using a sump (I have a 48 gallon too without a sump) and didn't know which of the two 20 gallons would work better. Since I couldn't figure it out in the store, I purchased both. I have attached a photo of both the tanks.

I prefer the long - it gives you a larger footprint for adding equipment.

Larger footprint? I'm not following. I plan on placing a protein skimmer in the sump. I worry if I got with the longer of the two, I won't be able to fit as much water needed. Sorry again, I'm still trying to learn about sumps.

Both tanks will hold the same amount of water but the longer tank will give you more "floor space" to add things like the overflow, live rock, macroalgae, a skimmer, return pump, etc, without having to cram everything into a smaller area. If you measure the width and length of both tanks, then multiply, you'll see that the longer of the two is a larger number. That's the "footprint" that GeriDoc was referring to. Floor space.
