I use a eshoppe hob overflow on my 40b. Bought it on amazon but F and S has them too. Easy to set up. I have never lost the siphon. If you use the flexible spa tubing it makes almost no noise.

Mine is a Rio don't remember the model but it is around 1900gph on my 125. My 125 is reef ready so I have two overflows (700 GPH each) and two returns. I only use the one pump and split the Return. I would guess with a 220 you'd want to have two hob overflow boxes as well to get more uniform circulation.

I'd drill it in a heartbeat. There's nothing to it... other than the fear of breaking the glass. Once you get past the fear, it's super-easy. BRS is where I got my hole saws. A cordless drill, a trickle of water, and patience enough to go slow and easy, and you've got a drilled tank. The biggest expense will be the bulkheads and fittings. Well worth the money, and looks so much neater. Just my 2c...

Usually only the bottom is tempered on a marineland. You can email them and ask. They answer pretty quickly.
