Sun Coral

Ok i want a sun coral for my 29gal and i was wondering if they are hard to care for.
Also according to this website this is what a sun coral looks like (1st pic)
But on other websites that is what a sun coral looks like (2nd pic)
So do they eventually become to look like the second pic or do you have to buy them like that?

they are both sun corals.
2nd are just at night when its gettin fed.
You have to feed them a lot since they dont depend on lihgt to survive

Isnt it a tad ironic that a sun coral doesnt need sun to survive?

there not tough to take care of just keep ur water nice and you have to feed them they like to be kept in shade so under a overhanging rock or something is best

I have to disagree with the people who say they do better in shade. I have mine at the bottom in full light and it will come to feed anytime I feed the fish. When I feed the suncoral I usally take it out and put in in a floating container so I dont foul up my DT water. I usally feed my coral every 3ish days

Yup they will usually adjust to feeding anytime they sense food, day or night. It's best to put them somewhere you can easily access them for feeding.
Cut a larger plastic bottle in half, place it over the sun coral, squirt the food in through the neck of the bottle. Keep everyone else from eating the food.

mine is open like your second picture pretty much all day. i feed mysis or other meaty foods every 1-3 days, and cover it with the top of a pop bottle so the shrimp dont steal the food.

if its at the bottom its probably ok, but if your lighting is really strong i would move it into the shade a little. if theyre in direct light longterm it can cause them to bleach.

They don't NEED light but they can be put in it. It doesn't matter. People confuse, it "living" in the shade with it "needing" shade.
I always took mine out of the tank and put it in a bowl to feed.

I always had mine in the shade and took it out to feed, but, I like the idea
of putting a bottle over it that way you do not move so much. they need
water flow to or alage will grow.
