how do you tell the difference between the 2
Dendros are usually quite a bit bigger but that's not always the case as there are large sun corals and small dendros. Dendros go from $20-50 a polyps though so they are considerably more expensive. Tissue connection is also not a good way to tell as my sun coral are branching and not attached to each other.
Here's a better pic of the dendro open, I still can't get the sun coral to open with the lights on, I need to get a pic of them on here!

Feed during the day, my dendro and rhizo are mostly open when the light is on, if they aren't a little food in the water gets them excited, the sun coral seem to take a lot longer to open up but will eventually.

Nice Rhizo,,,,, Those things are super expensive right ?
Mine was a good deal but usually anywhere from $250-700 depending on color, the orange and pink ones are really expensive.

Are they hard to take care of?
Not really you just have to feed them 3-4 times /week minimum. They ( at least mine) eat just about anything! Look at the smile on his happy little face all stuffed full.

when you say that you take them out of the tank to feed can they be in the open air for transfer or do you scoop them out in a bowl with water in it? I have only stock florescent lights and would like something to give my tank some color and these look realy cool.

You want to take them out while they are open so no air contact. Scoop them out while in a container with water. I have better method of feeding though.
Cut the upper half of a 2 liter bottle off. Put that over the sun coral and feed it through the top.
