Sun-lit Reef

well i guess not that many people are watching my upgrade thread in the DIY section where i posted these, but basically what is happening in these picstures is this: My tank is positioned directly in front of a window. this window is normally closed, shades drawn to cut down on heat. we working on my CLS plumbing and could only get to it by opening the windows and working from the outside. in doing so, the canopy was off the tank, and sunlight came pouring in, filling up my tank light. it was a very cool and unecpected phenomenon so i grabbed a couple of pics while the tank was in this state.

Wow, great lighting! :cheer: Of course it would be with it being the "original" light source. To bad our tanks can't take it full-time.

Just for fun though, what did you think would happen?

well because the window was facing south, and the back wall of the tank is black acrylic, i was not expecting any direct light to get in the tank, just ambient light.
sorry we had our hands full working, so thats all the pics that were taken, no full tank.

What do you mean by this..Are you saying it like to bad they cant..like you wish it could but cant keep a fish tank outside. Or are you saying it wouldnt be good for the tank wich kinda confused me.

Sunlight on a tank looks great, for about a minute as it's very bad for it. You will get an incredable amount of algea growth in your tank if you allow sunlight to touch your tank, not to mention it can over heat. BUT, the tanks in Hawaii are outside and they look fabulous, but they are also large and don't have covers on them. Sorry I confused you.
