hey there ya'll
last night I purchased a ricorida at my LFS that I have been eyeing for over a month now. It is VERY VERY bright red/orange with a bright green mouth. even with no lights on it almost looks to be glowing.
I am wondering about placement of this ricordia??
I have several others but they are normal every day dull colored ric's so i figure this one might have different requirments.
it is under 500watts of power compact about 12 inches under the surface right now but i can move it just about anywhere.
in the store it was open about the size of a silver dollar but so far at home it has opened no bigger then a nickle. and has not opened up flat yet. all other coral is doing great as usual.
I really dont want to lose this ric. any info would be great.

Moderate flow, moderate current, good water conditions.
Looks like a R. yuma but I can't tell from the distance.

the nice part is at my local fish store if you buy one coral you get another for only 10 bucks. so since we bought some zoos last night we got this for only 10 bucks. i dont know how much they cost but it sounds like a good deal to me

I've never propogated a ric before, is it done the same as a shroom & are they more delicate?

In my experience they can be manually propogated but they are a LOT more delicate than mushrooms. I'd let it reproduce naturally before you start slicing.

I agree that letting them split on their own is preferable. It is definately easier on my nerves. The attached pic is of mine. It started as a single polyp less than a year ago and now this rock has at least four polyps on it plus a few strays that decided to leave the main rock.
