Super skimmer 65

Mine always pulled out black colored crud. I had the water level in the skimmer about 1" above the red ring.
I should also mention that I turned it off a while back for 2 reasons.
1. I was tired of re-adjusting it every day.
2. I was moving everything into a new tank, so I didn't have to have it running.
I really liked this skimmer at first, but after having my new Reef Devil that never has to be adjusted, my opinion of the super skimmers has changed. They need constatnt adjusting and are more trouble than they are worth.
You can set it like I had mine set, but I pormise you will have to adjust it at least every other day to keep it skimming properly.

Raise it a little higher. You really have to play with it. When the cone gets covered in nasty it makes the bubbles harder to get into the cup and needs a good cleaning. I don't mind re-adjusting my ss b/c it makes me do a system check daily and prevents me from getting lazy.

Question for super skimmer owner?
I just got mine up and running. When I put the silencer on the air intake tube there are no bubbles at all. When I pull it of there are tons of bubbles but it is really loud. Do you think my silencer is clogger? I am about done with the break in period. How do you unclog it? I am tried to pull it apart but it is glued and i am affraid it will break.

can you blow air through it? If so it isn't clogged. Make sure that it is above the water level.

you talking about the "film case" looking thing? The air silencer I believe. If that line is clogged you found your problem. Try pulling it off the airline and see if that helps. Salt could have accumulated in there and caused it to clog. Warm fresh water will help dissolve the salt in there. Worst case you may have to break it and make a DIY one out of an old "film case."

old film case, sound like a good idea, so i guess you would drill two holes and put something inside of it. What works the best?

You can make one at home out of a film canaster, you just use floss in them as a silencer. You can also use cotton (needs replaced very often), biobale or simply a piece of a green scrub pad rolled up in there. I have use an old filter sock cut up and loosely stuffed inside, worked great.
