supplements

I recently inherited an established 90-gallon tank, along with a lot of supplies. I have been finishing off a product called "Reef DNA", which I also think goes by the name of "Coral Vital". It supposedly aides corals (I have majority soft corals) in adhering to substrate, helps them "open up", helps with color, and also makes the claim that it reduces the likelihood of ICH. I was curious if I should continue using this product or if I should investigate a different product that contains particular mineral supplements. Or, should I do all of the above! <img src="graemlins//confused.gif" border="0" alt="[confused]" />

Along with seeing a suggestion from someone on here in a thread of using only Reef Vital DNA and Black Powder as additives, I started to use them. The first treatments are daily for 30 days. Over the first two weeks, I noticed no change, but over the next two weeks I started to see deep coraline development and new growth on the live rock. Even the older rock started to have new life emerge on it. I am probably six weeks into using it, and I definitely see a difference in the tank.
I also follow the additive program recommended by GARF for calcium, etc. but I attribute the change to the Black Powder/Reef Vital DNA treatment.
Just a note of caution, and it is on the bottle instructions: Reef Vital DNA can give false ammonia readings (and it did!). Unless you know that your tank is fully cycled and stable, it is probably not a good idea to use it. If you do, there would be no way of knowing if it is the additive or the cycle.

I have noticed that the live rock did perk up quite a bit after using it frequently. It was probably also responsible for helping one of the corals heal after getting jostled in the move. I just wanted to check and make sure it was worth the investment. :) Thanks for the input!
