Hello
Im thinking of buying this for use on my new 38 gallon tank. I'll be having around 30-35 pounds of live rock in the tank, will this filter/skimmer be sufficient?

i have one currently on a 10 gallon.i will be moving it to a 20. i dont really recommend it for only 3 reasons, its big, its noisy without a doubt(when the skimmers on),and it blasts millions of bubbles into the main tank. though it keeps my water really clean, and it is powerful and made for saltwater use. so its mostly a so-so filter for skimming, mostly the filter is good,oh and one more thing if you buy it place bio-balls in the main house for extra filtering.wont stop the bubbles though.
good luck

to be honest with you i have no idea, what i have seen is a couple of people modify it and do things to it to stop the bubbles and the noise and it will still skim perfectly, i have a link to it,if you want it i'll send it to you, i havent tried it though so it'd be at your own risk. mine cost me 50 bux,how much are you gettin' it for?

SKILTER 250 MODIFICATION

By, Doug Coverdale
I didn't want to spend a fortune on a skimmer for my 10 gallon reef in my office. I could not justify the cost of a CPR BakPak for such a small tank with a low bioload. A Skilter was the most affordable alternative, but I was not happy with it's skimming capabilities, bubbles in the main tank and noise. The modifications I made eliminated these problems.
To enhance skimming and eliminate bubbles in the tank I removed the noisy venturi tube and replaced it with a limewood airstone. A 35mm film canister was added to prevent the bubbles from leaving the skimmer tube. Drill a hole in the center of the bottom of the canister large enough for the

of the airstone. Insert the airstone,

first, into the film canister and push

through the hole at the bottom of the canister. Attach airline tubing and feed the tubing down the skimmer tube and out one of the holes at the bottom. the airline will exit the Skilter at the water output spillway. Attach the other end of the tube to an airpump with a control valve.
A Skilter with this modification will work very well on a small tank with a low bioload.
some other dude wrote this, read it well
