The Lyretail Anthias, Pseudanthias squamipinnis, also known as the Pink Anthias, Squami Anthias, Scalefin Anthias, and Jewel Anthias, is one of the hardiest and largest Anthias species. Males of this species have a pink/peach colored body with a yellow-gradient splotch in the center of its body. Females are solid pink with distinct yellow trimmings along its fins.
The Lyretail Anthias is an easy species to care for and maintain so it is recommended as a good fish for beginner and expert aquarists alike. However, upon introduction to the tank a period of caution should be maintained with more aggressive fish in the tank. The Lyretail Anthias is hermaphroditic. They are best kept in groups of one male and several females. If the dominant male dies, the next largest female will morph into a male and assume leadership of the group.
The Lyretail Anthias is reef safe and invertebrate safe. The Lyretail Anthias can grow to be 6 inches long, and should be kept in a tank no smaller than 50 gallons in kept individually, and no less than 90 gallons if keeping a group, it is also best to have plenty of live rock providing it places to hide. They eat a varied diet including finely chopped brine and mysis shrimp. Overall, you cannot go wrong with the decision to add a Lyretail Anthias to your tank. They are friendly, active, and beautiful. The Lyretail Anthias will thrive at temperatures from 72-78° F and a pH of 8.1-8.4.
