Switched from CC to DSB/Algea problem

I switched from CC to DSB about a month ago. I also replaced my lights with two 90W Smart lights compacts. Since I made the changes, I have been plagued with algea blooms and brown algea on top of the sand. I used 4" silica sand and topped it with 1" live sand from my lfs. My readings were fine but recently I noticed a drop in PH which I stabilized. Any comments or suggestions? All the livestock seems to be doing fine except for snails.

Try cutting back the number of hours that your lights are on.
In the ocean, there is 12 hours of daylight, but it is at varying degrees of intensity. In a tank, the light intensity stays the same (high) all the time, so there's no need to run the lights that long. I would suggest cutting the time your lights are on down to 8 hours.

Your ph will most likely continue to fluctuate due to lack of buffering from the silica sand versus the aragonite sand. I think you should pay close attention to that.
