switching lights

I am getting back to my tank after being gone for 6 month's on a deployment. I am sick an tired of "red slime" algae or "blue algae" or cyno bacteria what ever it is. so I am convinced it’s coming from my old ass VHO's, your supposed to replace them every 6 months right. yea I never do just when they burn out.
So I am going to switch the two 10,000k's with 250w MH's and hope that this will solve my "off spectrum lights" problems. What I want to know is if two MH's are good enough to cover a 6 ft tank?
I only feed my fish and what not two to three time's a week and not very much then. I only use RO/DI water; My Antics are on for 8hrs and 10,000k’s for 6hrs. I was thinking about getting a UV sterilizer also.
Here is my setup I have a 125gal reef with 7 small fish, a bubble coral, big anemone that starts with "A" and stag horn, colt, feather dusters, cleaner shrimp, 1 blue linka, 3 brittles stars, 1 sand sifting star and some snails and blue/red leg crabs. I have a wet/dry with skimmer and a 30 gallon refuge.
edit I have had my tank set up like this for 4 years I have always had a problem with red algae... i used chemiclean like crazy and clean it like every outher day with no avile. thanks
