Switching tanks

Hi,
I've had a 20gal saltwater tank going for 4 years now. It has some live rock, a clown and a damsel, a few hermit crabs, a brittle star, some shrimp and a couple of emerald crabs. We just ordered a 24 gallon aqua pod. For the first time we'll have lights and hope to eventually get an anemone for the clown. This tank is in a school and we would like to show students symbiosis.
I have two questions
1) What would be the best way to make the switch. ( I do plan to get more live rock)
and 2) My husband says to use the crushed coral gravel base we have in this tank. I can see using some to "innoculate" the tank but I think we should switch to live sand.
Opinions?
We can leave the tanks side by side if necessary.

Sounds good to me, the anemone will need lots of light.
