What are these? I know they are a type of lighting but are they a kind of metal halide? Flourescent? Where can I get them and can they support corals, clams, and anenomes in a 125 gallon reef?

Try to get the high output fixture if you can. I recently picked up a normal output 36" strip with 21W bulbs and I wish I had gotten the HO ones. Try to cheap out and get what you pay for, I guess.

if you get the right setup you can keep anything. in the beginning they may be the same price or a little more, but in the long run they will be cheaper (cheaper to run, and bulbs only need to be replaced every 18-24 months). do you have a 125 or am i thinking of someone else? if you do and its the standard 6' long id go with the aquactinics "constellation" fixture. it has (14) 39w ho T5 bulbs that are individually reflected. with this you will have NO limitations on what you keep.

Um, no they dont. T5's are cheaper than Halides and as long as you have enough wattage you can keep anything you want.

How High do T-5 lights go up as far as watts? Thats what I was unsure of in my 1st post. I should have said reccomended MH's sorry.

Being as how my T-5 Fixture is at 254w over the entire tank. MH bulbs are 250w? I guess it all depends on the size of the tank, the bigger the more light u need.

I believe that HO T5 bulbs go up to 80 watts. The wattage is based on the size of the bulbs. I have a 6x54 watt system that is 48 inches long. I think that if you want the 80 watt bulbs, they are longer.

Thank a lot for reccomending the constellation fixture!!! I looked it up and it looks like it covers everything! I was just wondering does it attach to the top of a canopy like a retrofit kit? Also can it be hooked up to a timer to get the sunrise and sunset effects? Also will I need actinics with this fixture because I would like that slight blue look to my tank.

I didnt get this at first either and would argue until I saw it for myself and I have. I friend has T-5's on his tank and has SPS corals thriving. I have not seen an anemone under them yet but They rate up there towards the MH
I dont know of I would say you can keep an anemone under them yet though but I know the SPS corals have grown and kept their color aswell under them'

fanker had some kind of an anemone under his T5 but im not sure what kind it was. about the constellation. im not sure if you can screw it to your canopy like a retro, i think you can only hang it or put its legs on. you will need the actinics, and if you like a crisp white with a bit of blue go with a even split of actinics to something like a 12k or 15k bulb.

I have not been able to find T5's any higher than 10K. Do you know where I can find them in a 12K? Which K amount gives off a pure white? From what I have read the higher the K amount the more blue the light looks. Is that right?
