I have a buddy of mine who wants to sell his T5 HO Fixture for 135.00, its supposed to be brand new. I dont have an actual fish tank since I had to take my last tank down but with my tax return money im looking to buy a 90. Most likely fowlr & I would like to have lights that bring out the natural beauty of the fish, would these lights actually be enough to do that? any maybe some corals later on down the line? Thanks ahead of time.

it depends on what brand of t5 it is for $135. if its just the basic model without individual reflectors, u can get a brand new one for $200 with bulbs. t5 is a nice for fowlr. but if u want corals later, u need to tell us what t5 it is.

Just a heads up. I've been searching for the same set up as opposed to going with the PC's that have more watts. I believe these are better because of the lumens they put out.
On to my point. $135 is a solid price, BUT I think you can find these shipped to your doorstep for close to $100 total.

Well what I really want is a light thats going to be a lot better then the regular lights & make the fish look awesome. On average how much more expensive are pc lights then t5? is the difference noticeable?

The thing about T5 is that there is a very broad spectrum of quality units. Brands like Odysea and Catalina and all those other obscure brands are junk, plain and simple. Lighting is one of those things where you truely get what you pay for. You will not find a decent T5ho fixture for less than $150 maybe even $200. Both you and your coral will be much happier if you spent the money on a better brand like TEK, Aquactinics, ATI, even a Nova Pro would be a better choice.
There is no comparison between PC and T5. A decent T5 unit can blow a decent halide fixture out of the water as far as PAR. PC are obsolete and cannot keep up.

well I was just looking at a Nova Pro 48" & its roughly about 375 thats a little more then I was actually looking to pay thats about 1/4 of my budget. At this point im not looking to put any coral in the tank I might even go aggressive, I just dont want to get duped into buying a piece of junk.

Do you have anymore information on it? A picture really doesn't help, but from the picture it doesn't look like it has individual reflectors.
If you're planning on going with an aggressive setup, then you really don't need to be too concerned about intense lighting.

With the individual reflectors, its not odyssea. there is another nameless( or sort of, forget the brand right now) that people sell off the

, individual reflectors. There was a thread in here not long ago asking about them.

I know lights are not that important if you are planning an agressive setup but when I had my last tank my lights sucked the tank looked nice but nothing compared to what I see on these boards so I just want decent lights not cheap ones
