Hi!

So i have 40 watts of individually reflected T5 lighting and was wondering what i could keep under them as far as coral go. I really like the SPS, but something tells me i wont be able to. Does the wattage really matter at all anymore, is it just about the type of lighting, or what
. Thanks in advance for any help!

No, wattage & wattage/gallon still matter, they are good indicators of proper lighting, just differ with every different type of lighting.
If this 40watts are on a 10 gallon then sps wouldn't be a problem. If it is on a 55gallon, forget about it. However, if you have a 20-30g, etc. you should be able to keep sps at the very top of your tank, directly under them, though it may be very difficult....
What size is your tank?

its not just light, its also water parameters and maturity of ur system. if this is a new setup, u shouldnt put sps in it even with the right lighting. try ur hand on lps b4 sps.

Oh, no, i wouldnt get sps right now
, im just trying to think ahead. So as far as lighting goes though, i would be ok for sps in the future, or will i need more?

What king of lighting do you have? Idk many T5 bulbs that would come out to 40 watts even? How many bulbs does your fixture have? Most 24in have 24 watts. Or are you just rounding down. Your lighting will not be the biggest issure with sps, its gonna be your water. If you gonna have sps you will need to keep your water in check all the time. Esp. in a 10 gal.

Yeah....... Your right. Current Usa has the only one that comes to mind. I just wouldnt use their bulbs, and its hard to find 18in bulbs that arent current usa slim paq.

I use a mixture of ATI, and UVL. ATI is an excellent brand!! UVL is ok, but i wanted a little red/pink added so i got their 14000k t5 bulb. Im not a fan of it but I paid for it so im gonna use it. Plus the 10000k was just too yellow for me.
