i am trying to decide between these two fixtures:
48" sunpod 2x150 watt HQI
48" nova extreme pro 6x54 watt
w/ individual reflectors
your input is greatly appreciated

I agree that if the T5's have individual reflectors (I believe the 'pro' does) then either would work. the T5s are less expensive to run and replace. Thus, I would lean toward the T5.

The straw on the camels back is the individual reflectors, without them I would go with the HQI. The Nova Pro (comes with individual reflectors) will be fine for Croceas and Sps.

An other ingrugal part of the decision is how deep is your tank? T5's IMO are the way to go but if the tank is deeper than 24" I would consider the MH as the t5's start to lose their intensity past 24"

the T5 has individual reflectors, and my tank is 20" tall. if my offer is cancelled, ill go with the nova pro T5, but its 6x54 watts. would that permit the same growth rate with sps and clams as the HQI?

With your tank being 20 inches tall I would have to say that the T5 with individual reflectors is the very good one. Lets say your tank is deeper than 2 feet like Perfect Dark said. Then the HQI would be the very good one.

Sorry but neither of those are "Very good". Current's equipment isn't junk like odysea or whatever but it is more of a quality product for the budget minded (nice way of saying cheap
) reefer. If its in your budget get quality lighting. If not 9We've all been there) the Current stuff will work and in particular the Nova Pro will let you raise about anything properly placed in the tank. I would strongly suggest replacing the blue lamps that come with the fixture fairly soon, the output is pretty pathetic compared to the good blue lamps like ATI or Giesemann's which have more than double the amount of PAR output.

i agree with reefraaf. i hv the nova pro 6x54w. its a decent lighting fixture for the avg reefer. i hv 5 clams and bunch of sps under it. these pics r under the nova pro 6x54w. derasa clams r actually more than 24 inches from the light.

I didn't say Very good was the best. You still have to attain amazing, freaking sweet, and god like.
